Solar storage tanks

Solar storage tanks

Solar storage tanks are typically well insulated and recommended for the dedicated tank for storing hot water generated from outside thermal collectors. They work as a preheat tank to the second or typical domestic hot water tank or boiler.  The second tank which is also the backup on cloudy days may be heated by gas, electric, oil or other solid fuel sources.

Sizing a solar tank depends on the number of people in the home taking showers, cooking, and running diswahsers.

Recomendations are 20 gallons for each of the first two people and  15 gallons for each additional person and size up the tank from there.

For example, a family of two would be a 40- 50 gallon tank. A family of four would require a 75 to 80 gallon tank,  and 100-120 gallons of storage for 6.

Solar pumps are sized and installed to move either water from the solar heated outside collectors (or in cold climates -- propelene glycol) to the storage tanks. The glycol will move through well insulated copper tubing that passes through an external or integrated heat exchanger on or inside the storage tanks that warms the domestic hot water to the preset temperatures.

Solar Attic Fans

Solar Attic Fans

Solar attic fans have a photo voltaic collector that when the sun hits it will automatically turn on an exhaust fan.

These fans cost nothing to operate, reduce heat buildup and moisture in attics. Lowers your air conditioning costs especially on second story dwellings.

Solar Sun Mate Panels

Solar Sun Mate Panels
What sets the SunMate™ apart from other solar panels is the design. One-piece construction produces a streamlined appearance that doesn’t detract from your home’s appearance. Heavy-duty, stainless steel and aluminum components result in quality construction that assures long life and virtually no maintenance. A single panel heats up to 700 square feet. Double-sealed solar glass eliminates air infiltration and water leaks. Polyisocyanurate insulation results in extremely low heat loss and an energy fan operates for just pennies per day. The SunMate™ is installed vertically and mounted on the side of your home or building. The design accommodates 2” x 4” or 2” x 6” construction. Parallel installation allows you to integrate multiple panels for big heating jobs.
